  1. Yesssss!!! I just finished WTDK and it deserves to be on every best list in the land. Congratulations…I hope you bring home the gold.

  2. Mary,

I found out via a phone call — I wasn’t at BEA because of a family gathering. But I am grateful to know that someone was cheering for me!

By the way, the title of this entry is a play on the wonderful book, NOT MUCH JUST CHILLIN’, about middle school life, which was essential research for To the Power of Three. Its author, Linda Pearlstine, ened up becoming my neighbor and friend, and she has another amazing book coming soon, TESTED.

  3. WOWsers! Congrats, Laura! What a great thing to happen to a great writer!

BTW, got my Crimespree the other day. Great cover <grinning>…who’s the pumpkin? <hehe> …(others–pick up the new Crimespree magazine….and you’ll see what I mean.)

  4. For a second I read it a bit too literally thinking “the most entertaining and enlightening titles” referred to only the titles of the books, in which case, of course I really wanted to go with “Special Topics in Calamity Physics” just because…. but then “Gonzo Judaism” is a great title too (by the fabulously named “Rabbi Niles Elliot goldstein) (Niles? Oy!)
this is lovely. I wish I could vote because i admit that seeing Jo Walton’s brilliant FARTHING in the sf/fantasy category makes me really happy too. (and is it ok if I confess I never even heard of one of your fellow nominees, even if I am on their reviewer mailing list?)

  5. Wow Laura how cool! So you’ll really only be up against the other poeple in your category, not the entire list eh? Even if that were true, that you’d be up against the whole list I think you’d have a chance. Now the reality is better than that, I’m pulling for your great book.

  6. The winner in each category then has a chance to be voted on for book of the year. If I were a more confident person, I’d add, “So keep your powder dry!” But I think Michael Connelly has to be the favorite.

  7. I’ve only read 2 of the other nominees (but one was Overlook) but of those, IMHO WTDK is clearly the best read.

    Good luck,

    Diane

And, in the miscellaneous info category, I’m in Hot Springs, AR and WTDK can be found in both the mystery and general fiction sections of the large (for Hot Springs) bookstore here.
