Great essay! I have never been to Baltimore – but I absolutely love the parts of Maryland I have visited – especially mountainous western Maryland; and who wouldn’t love Queen Anne (the other place I’ve been) on the Delmarva penninsula.
The question I have about the seemingly endless demand for the drugs that fuel the criminal enterprises in the city, is where does the money for that come from? Some (large) number of the childless people who live in the gentrified wine bar/bike path areas? And, where does it go? Just the flow of all that cash (never mind the merchandise, for the moment) must pose large challenges to the players.
Presumeably there’s some number of suit-and-tie guys who handle large amounts of cash without asking too many questions?
Great insight into Baltimore and beautiful picture of the city.
