Day 7: Fans

The fans have been gathered outside the hotel since late afternoon, held back by velvet ropes. Polite and courteous, they have bags and bags of memorabilia.

They are waiting for Shaquille O’Neal, in town with the Phoenix Suns, or so I gather.

Had two interviews this morning, on a terrific local television show and at a community radio station, where I sat down with my old friend Ed Goldberg, a fine PI writer. Ed does a great interview, no surprise there, but the television interview was also delightful. The station got a clip of my “performance” from HBO’s The Wire and used it to promote my segment, which allowed me to use a favorite line: “As an actress, I’m a pretty good novelist.” But they also delighted me by talking about Kathy Bates, and we had a lively exchange about the “hobbling” scene from “Misery.”

Off to Powell’s tonight. I’m up against St. Patrick’s Day, but it’s also the birthday of the incomparable Billie Bloebaum, everyone’s favorite bookseller/fashion plate so as long as she’s there, I’m happy.

  1. Has anyone picked up on the fact that THE WIRE was kinda/sorta your second television cameo appearance? I’m referring to the fact that LIPPMAN appeared in red on the Homicide victims’ board late in the series?

  2. Make it three — I was an extra in the “Homicide” episode featuring Joan Chen. I can be seen in the newsroom, gesticulating. (Talk about running the gamut from A to Z — I play a reporter who waves her arms, I play a reporter who stands with arms folded. Boy, what range.)

  3. Homicide Life On The Streets is my all time favorite cop show that’s ever been on TV. I watched it when it started all the way through and I just ordered it at netflix so I can watch the series again, no hardship for me. :-) Which episode are you in with Joan Chen Laura? She is one of my fav actresses. I own a lot of DVDs of her movies. It will be fun to watch the series again this time looking for your three appearaces.

  4. Joan Chen’s gorgeous, at least on screen. Is she in person/close up? Is that a stupid question? I remember her from “Twin Peaks”
Following a tv company filming on location can be ineresting – it was for me, tourist that I was, I got to see very pictureque parts of SF during the 2 or 3 days I literally followed the show around the city.

  5. I miss “The Wire”! BUT I’m going to buy all the DVDs when the last season comes out, or at the least, put it on my Christmas wish list.

Glad to see the tour is going well. Up against St. Pat’s Day…let us know how it went. I’d be willing to be you had a crowd.

  6. I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed you were a homicide case on the show. An open case, I might add.

The hobbling scene in Misery, you just made my ankles ache a little…
