Day 19: Iowa City/Nothing Halfway

As Joe Willard once asked Betsy Ray: Do you get these allusions? Although Joe Willard made literary allusions, while I usually fall back on musical comedy.

At any rate, maybe the caffeine in Iowa is better or maybe I am just bored because I have done so much work this morning it scares me. I decided to begin preparing the first three chapters of the Novel-in-Progress to send to my editor, a spring ritual that I think we both find reassuring. And then I wrote 2,500 words on The Mystery Project. Granted, I’ve been up since 6-ish, but it’s still an unusual amount of work. I feel unusually buzzed. What did you put in my cappucino, Java House? And could I have some more?

  1. Caffeine- In the summer of 2006- there were 24 Starbucks in the state of Iowa- and very few were free standing- they were in other stores(maybe supermarkets or maybe Shopko?). There were probably 24 Starbucks within a mile radius of Dupont Circle in DC at the same time. We visited one of the free standing Starbucks in some mall with a carousel. Later we had much better coffee at one of three coffee bars in Grinnell(population 8000)

  2. It’s damp and rainy in Charm City this evening.

The Orioles again start off the season losing.

Java House in Iowa City sounds pretty good, you betcha!
