Over the past few weeks, the short story nominees for the Anthony have been made available online for those who want a chance to read them before voting at Bouchercon this weekend.
I was the last one to join the party, for two reasons: 1) I’ve been in the midst of revisions and 2) my story is the title piece in a collection that will be published Tuesday, so I needed to make it available for only a limited period of time. Anyway, here’s the <a href=” http://www.charmedtodeath.com/anthonys.html”>link</a> to all the Anthony nominated stories. And if you want a signed copy of the new collection, I’ll be at the Barnes & Noble in Charles Village (3300 St. Paul Street) on Friday, Oct. 10, at noon.
And remember, you don’t have to be alive to vote in Baltimore. At least, that was the contention in one of the gubernatorial races.
Laura,is there parking within a reasonable distance of the B&N/Charles Village, street(probably rare) or paying? I haven’t paid attention passing by.
June,
I don’t have a clue.
By the way, I am taking odds on my ability to go 0-4 in the awards. (Technically 0-for-5, as John Connolly has already been announced the winner of the Crimespree award.)
June, there is on-street parking with those pay stations. You will be competing with students and residents. I have been at that B&N on a Saturday with no problem finding a space close by. Not sure what the weekday is like. Does Baltimore city even understand the concept of free parking?!?!?!
Vote early and often!
Laura,
I’m planning on buying Hardly Knew Her from my local independent bookstore. I like to support them when I can since I don’t buy many books anymore after having convinced my husband to empty his out of the garage (but books with references to Dundalk qualify as ‘keepers’). Anyway, if I hang on to it until the next time that I am in geographical proximity to a booksigning event of yours (which could be several books/years from now), will you sign it then?
Of course, Diane!
And thanks for supporting independent booksellers, who have been unstinting in their support of Hardly Knew Her, one of their recommended titles for November.
My local independent bookseller is The Bookworm of Edwards which has moved to a great new space with a coffee & crepe shop since you were there for WTDK as a newly minted “NY Times bestselling author.”
Baltimore understands the concept of free parking, but takes a dim view of giving the free parker all the fees, etc. in the community pot, as Baltimore is something of a Monopoly purist.
Either Murder by the Book in Denver or Once Upon a Crime in Minneapolis will be getting my money in exchange for Hardly Knew Her. I do my best to keep both of them in business!
Are we allowed to comment here on the delectable NY Times magazine series here, the very one featuring Tess Monaghan? Can’t wait to get the magazine section and sit down with a cup of tea and start reading. Particularly wonderful is Tess Monaghan’s thought process, along with everything else. Wish this were a weekly feature for a few years but will settle for what we get and enjoy it.
Kathy,
You’re free to comment on just about anything here. If I were more organized, I’d have a forum and then we could have a dedicated discussion thread, but I just haven’t gotten around to that.
I read the short story entries, just for fun since I am not at B’Con.
If I were there, Hardly Knew Her would clearly get my vote, even without the Dundalk connection. How Sella Got her Grave Back would be a close 2nd. They were all well written but the rest were a little too predictable for my taste.
Good Luck!
Hey, pleasant surprise in this week’s Baltimore City Paper. I turned the page and there was a picture of you and an interview!
How is it that Allibris can sell your new book for so many different prices? I was over there for something else and out of curiosity did a search and was dumbfounded. I don’t know what to make of this. any words of advice (or caution)?
A Barnes & Nobles _there_? Terrifying. It has been a long time since I’ve been to Baltimore. (Used to live < 4 blocks away.)
Will keep an eye out for HKH.
