As I Suspected . . .

I will not be #11 on the New York Times list on April 8th.

I’ll be #10.

Happy now, Bryon?

Seriously, this is far more than I hoped for. I was hoping that I might hang on for a second week, at slot #15, but it seemed like a lot to ask.

Lovely to see Barbara and Clair tonight. And thank you, my mystery benefactor — you know who you are, but I won’t out you without permission — who left the kosher-for-passover Coca-Cola.

Terrific signing at Politics & Prose, as always. Bonus — my two sisters-in-law, my brother-in-law, one of my oldest friends and her two kids, and, in an unbilled cameo, my actual SO made it to the signing and went to dinner with me afterward.

  1. Meanwhile, a great time waster, inspired by thoughts of Bryon’s puppet theater.

  2. I TOTALLY vote for puppet theater of any kind for the Wednesday evening before the Edgars. Then Dave can sing the theme and I can, I dunno, concoct some bizarre idea or another.

  3. I’m on top of Bob Crais

    Looking down on creation,
And the only explanation I can find,
Is the love that I’ve found,
    Ever since you’ve been around,
Your love put me on top of Bob Crais.

    I apologize profusely for this.

These are hysterical. I’m going to flunk out of graduate school and then lose my job because I didn’t finish my MLS-all because I’m watching bunny movies instead of doing the assignment that is due tonight. Gee-thanks Laura.

  5. Hi, girl! Finally get a new laptop, and here’s the best news a friend could ever see about another writer: NUMBER 10! WOWSERS! I’d be dancing on the ceiling, if I could reach it :)

Seriously congratulations, Laura. You deserve it more than almost anyone else I know….You’re a class act (stop blushing, it’s true!)

Now, are you coming to Sleuthfest? Cause if you are, there’ll be a drink waiting in the bar :)

ARGHH! I just read this….cute, Keith, cute! Now the dang song will be running through my brain for a week…and the picture it brings to mind….Bob C with a BIG grin :)

  7. By the way, I’ve just seen the list and would it be wrong to say . . .

“I’m on top of Bob Crais.”

Bear in mind, Bob’s book has been out for a month and I’ve seen some proprietary numbers, so I know he outsells me at a margin that is truly breathtaking. So this isn’t trash-talking. Although it might be actionable.

Still, I like being on top of Bob better than being under Mitch.

  8. Why do I want to sing The Song of the Count? (“Ten, ten, wonderful ten, then I start again!”) Congratulations!

You gave a great talk last night, and the turnout was very impressive for a Wednesday night. Oh, and “left brain” is logical/analytical/remembered while “right brain” is intuitive/random/imagined. (I looked it up…)

  9. Fantastic! I was in Barnes and Noble yesterday and right up front with all of their best sellers were a few, lonely copies of WTDK, pining because all of their friends had been sold! They were restocking when I left! I was so proud!

  10. HOT DIGGITY!!!!

That’s not what I actually set out to say but I’m trying to improve my image. I have a friend on the NYT Best Seller List you know. One MUST strive for decorum.

  11. My thoughts on the list:

It would appear that Joe Hill enjoyed an enormous boost from the New York Times profile. At any rate, you don’t often see someone go from 16 to 8 in the sixth week of release.

    Go, Lionel Shriver.

  12. Sarah, thanks for the link. I’m going to the signing tomorrow at Chester County Bookstore and thought it would be fun to get the list signed by an actual best-selling author! :)

  13. Looking at the list, I can’t help but be struck that 2/3 of the top 15 are women – and than the top five slots are all female writers. And then I wonder why I never noticed before, or if it’s really unusual.
